The thought of having inhabited a womb yet having no recollection of your stay is disconcerting.  It is a universal experience yet none of us can share our perspectives on that. “GLITCH: You Are in A Womb” is a speculative installation that reimagines life in the womb, and is the second edition. The project is a multimedia presentation of the artist’s preoccupation with  objects and beings that trigger thoughts on the past, present and future of our bodies. What does it mean that we exist? What does it mean to exist in relation to these objects? She uses the womb as a point of departure into the unknown, encouraging viewers to playfully contemplate their own realities and self.

Nyahan uses textiles, fibre and the tie-dye process to create fleshy organic forms that represent the coziness of the womb. The video projection references Pipilotti Rist’s Selbstlos im Lavabad (Selfless in the Bath of Lava) (1994) and shows Nyahan looking up to us, stressed, in a lake of fire pleading with the audience. It is a portal into the world from the womb portraying some realities of how life feels today.

This piece was shown in Accra with Gallery 1957 as a part of the group show, Constellations: Figures in Webs and Ripples of Space co -curated by Nuna Doe, Tracy Thompson and Katherine Finerty.
